Questions, answered
How does booking work?
Pick your dates on the calendar and send your details. Your dates are held straight away while we check, and we'll email you to confirm and arrange payment. Nothing is taken online.
What are the hire times?
Hire times are 9am to 6pm.
How do we get into the hut?
Access is via a key safe on the side of the hut. The code is emailed to you at least 48 hours before your booked dates — please check your junk folder.
After opening the key safe, close the shutter and scramble the numbers. Please put the padlocks inside the hut as soon as you've opened up, and keep the keys in the key safe so they aren't lost. On leaving, the hut must be securely locked and bolted, the keys replaced in the key safe, the shutter closed and the numbers scrambled.
How many people can use the hut?
A maximum of 8 guests inside and directly outside the hut, under Tendring District Council's commercial rules. Beyond that number, you're very welcome to put tables and chairs on the beach.
We kindly ask that you don't hold large gatherings outside the hut or on the beach directly opposite. Please keep to the boundaries of the hut when the neighbouring huts are in use, so we don't encroach on our neighbours' space.
Can I bring my dog?
Two well-behaved dogs are allowed per booking. Please keep them under control at all times and, in particular, keep noise to a minimum.
Cancelling your booking
Cancel up to 7 full days before your date and you'll get a full refund. Within 7 days we keep 50% of the day's hire fee, and within 48 hours no refund is given. We can't refund or change dates for bad weather.
We reserve the right to cancel a booking if we're unable to let the hut for reasons beyond our control. In that case a full refund is given.
It's going to rain
We can't offer bad weather refunds for dates you don't use, or if you decide not to go. The hut is a lovely spot to sit out a shower.
Tide times
Please check the tide times before your visit. At high tide you can still use areas of the beach.
Can we have a BBQ?
BBQs are strictly prohibited in and around the beach huts and the promenade.
Can we stay overnight?
Unfortunately our licence conditions prohibit the huts from being used as overnight accommodation.
Are the huts on the sand?
The huts are on the promenade, and the beach is reached by some steps beside the hut.
Do I need to bring anything?
Just food, drink, towels and a charging cable. Chairs, table, parasol, windbreak, crockery, tea, coffee and beach toys are all there for you.
Is there really electric?
Yes — and it's unusual for a beach hut. That means a kettle for a proper cuppa, a cooler for cold drinks, lights, a Bluetooth speaker and charging points.
